Community Groups

Community Groups at Evangelical Free Bible Church
                                                           Doing life together

God’s desire for us is to grow spiritually. Spiritual growth is best summarized by Jesus in Matthew 22:37-39. In these verses we are told that the whole of God’s will for us is summed up in the two greatest commandments: First, love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind. Second, love our neighbor as our self.

We believe that it is within the context of community that we best learn to love God and each other. That’s why we have established a small group ministry called Community Groups where you can connect with other believers in loving relationships that will help you to grow spiritually and see significant change occur in your life.

In Community Groups you will discuss real life and real life issues in light of God’s word. You will celebrate the good times of life and comfort one another during the tough times. You will find a safe place to be yourself; to laugh, cry, and share your burdens or struggles. It is a place in which you will be encouraged, equipped, and challenged to become a fully devoted follower of Christ as you do life together.

If you do not already belong to a Community Group we encourage you to take the next step and give it a try.

Community Group Values:
  1. Relationships – The primary objective of Community Groups is to build genuine relationships with others in order to help each other grow spiritually.

  1. Authenticity – The atmosphere of a Community Group should encourage openness and transparency among its members. Members must feel safe to be themselves without fear of ridicule or rejection.

  1. Confidentiality – For people to feel safe in being open and transparent, members need to have confidence that things shared in a Community Group will not be shared outside the group.

  1. Respect – Group members should never do or say anything that would embarrass their spouse of other members of the group.

  1. Availability – Building authentic community requires prioritizing relationships. This means a willingness to be available to help one another and meet each others needs.

  1. Multiplication – As a Community Group grows its goal is to work toward multiplication by starting a new group. This allows others to share in the Community Group experience.

FAQ’s
What is a Community Group?
A Community Group is a small group of up to 15 people who meet together in someone’s home on a regular basis for Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and accountability.

What is the purpose of Community Groups?
Community Groups exist to provide a small group environment where participants connect with one another in authentic Christian community and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

What happens at a Community Group?
Most groups begin by sharing in a meal or time of refreshments together where they can visit and “catch up” with one another. Then there is a time of study/discussion in a passage or topic of the Bible. Following the discussion, the group members have a prayer time together where they can share, needs, concerns, joys, burdens, and other prayer requests that the group can pray for.

When do Community Groups meet?
Each Community Group decides when and where it will meet. Some meet on Sunday evenings while others meet at various times during the week.

Can I try a Community Group before I commit to it?
Yes. You can attend a Community Group for a couple of weeks to see if it is the right fit for you before making a commitment to that group.
